| Restrictions on Importing Fox and Fox Products The Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment wishes to remind members of the public that a total ban remains in force for the importation of live foxes into Tasmania.
Restrictions also apply to the importation into Tasmania of unprocessed or untanned fox carcasses, fox parts and all fox products (including fox scats) as follows:
Prohibited entry into Tasmania under the Animal Health Act 1995 unless accompanied by a document called a Special Authority issued by the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO).
Hunters, collectors, taxidermists and members of the public wishing to import any of these fox products will need to apply to the CVO for a Special Authority giving prior written permission to import.
Once CVO approval has been given, the importer will then need to notify Quarantine Tasmania prior to importation of the unprocessed fox products.
No restrictions apply to the importation into Tasmania of these fully tanned fox products, but they must still be presented for quarantine inspection upon arrival in Tasmania.
Failure to comply with the import requirements of section 17(1) of the Animal Health Act 1995 may result in a $260 Quarantine Infringement Notice being issued to the importer, with the fox parts or fox products being seized and destroyed.
If you have any queries relating to the importation process or the issuing of Special Authorities by the Chief Veterinary Officer for the importation of any fox products, please call Quarantine Tasmania on (03) 6233 3352. Quarantine Tasmania
