Animal Welfare During Bushfires

Unfortunately stock, domestic animals and wildlife are all impacted by bushfire.

Stock and Domestic Animals

DPIPWE is available to assist with assessment of burnt livestock and available to provide assistance to put down livestock where necessary. We can also direct you to where you can access services relating to animals impacted by the fires. Contact us on 6233 6875.

Regarding livestock, the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) is running a number of emergency assistance programsYou are now leaving our site. DPIPWE is not responsible for the content of the web site to which you are going. The link does not constitute any form of endorsement for livestock owners affected by the bushfires, including fodder and emergency fencing. The TFGA’s contact number is 1800 154 111.

Advice on livestock management after a bushfire and on feeding for burnt-out grazing enterprises is available through Sheep Connect. The contacts are James Tyson on 0409 006 774 and Andrew Bailey on 0408 129 373.

Wildlife

Any member of the public requiring assistance with injured wildlife should contact DPIPWE on 6233 2520 for advice.

DPIPWE manages a network of wildlife carers and works with other volunteer groups and wildlife parks to provide care for injured animals.
