Animal Ethics Committee

The Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE) Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) has been established to consider proposals to conduct scientific or educational projects that involve animals. The DPIPWE AEC services DPIPWE Divisions and may, on request, assess applications to conduct animal research from external institutions, where there is considered to be significant public benefit from the research.

AEC approval is required under the Animal Welfare Act 1993 (the Act) and the Australian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, 7th Edition 2004 (the Code).
