Veterinary Board of Tasmania

The Board provides an information service to the veterinary profession with respect to the registration procedures required by the Act, together with contemporary standards of veterinary practice. The Board also provides information to the general public with respect to procedures for making complaints about veterinary surgeons.

BOARD UPDATES: 12 December 2012

Changes to the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1987 and commencement of the Veterinary Surgeons Regulations 2012

Amendments to the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1987 and the Veterinary Surgeons Regulations 2012 commenced on 12 December 2012. For a summary of the changes go to Veterinary Board Publications.

National Recognition of Veterinary Registration (NRVR)

NRVR applies in Tasmania from 12 December 2012. Veterinary surgeons (including specialists) who currently hold primary registration and reside permanently in another Australian State or Territory are entitled to practise as a veterinary surgeon in Tasmania on a part-time/casual/locum basis without having to register with the Veterinary Board of Tasmania.


Members of the Veterinary Board
Members are appointed for three years. The current term ends 2 November 2015.
Veterinary Surgeon Registration Applications
Full registration is for the current calendar year or remainder thereof. Temporary registration is for a maximum term of 3 months.
Standards of Veterinary Practice
With respect to certain aspects of veterinary practice the Board specifies the standards to which veterinary surgeons are expected to practice.
Complaints Against Vets
The procedure for submitting complaints regarding veterinary surgeons.
Veterinary Service Entities
The responsibilities of entities which provide veterinary services in accordance with the Act.
Veterinary Board Publications
Publications including the Veterinary Board Annual Reports, Newsletters and Fact Sheets.
Veterinary Board Services
The Board provides a number of services including letters of good standing and lists of registered veterinary surgeons.
Veterinary Register
A list of veterinary surgeons registered in Tasmania.
